We recently assisted a client in the Naples, Florida area with a damaged ceiling, stove and drywall from a small yet intense grease fire in their kitchen.
This occurred when they temporarily walked away from the kitchen area to address something else. Recalling the experience the home owner told us,
“It happened in a literal flash.“
They were only alerted to the issue by the “bright dancing lights” emanating from the kitchen door-way. Upon entering the kitchen they did not panic, but acted quickly to put out the flames using a small fire extinguisher that they kept underneath their kitchen sink.
Then they called our professional damage restoration team to help with the repairs and clean-up.
Ideas for Fire Safety in the Kitchen:
- Don’t throw out that expired box of Baking Soda! Rather clearly mark it as expired and keep it near the stove. In the event of a grease fire, use it to smother the flames putting it out without much clean-up required. Grease fires don’t care if the “best used by” date has expired!
